Definition
Storytelling is an art of narration skills is done orally to others who describe actual events or in the form of fiction that contains a message, information, ideas or just a fairy tale about learning about life. People telling stories are called storytellers.
When someone wants to engage in storytelling, they will create an experience called the storytelling triangle. The storytelling triangle is an interaction that involves three main elements when telling a story. They are the storyteller, the story, and the audience. These three elements will help the writer to shape the story that ultimately creates the storytelling experience.
Storytelling Genre
The genre or type of story in storytelling is narrative, including the following:
- Personal narratives that originate from personal experience are then told to oneself and others.
- Family stories that are sourced from the legacy of family values.
- Ghost stories are usually tied to a particular culture or place.
- Folklore or stories born from certain cultures, for example 'Bawang Merah and Bawang Putih.'
- Fairy tales or stories that involve magical things in the plot.
- Sacred or mythological stories that tell about gods and humans.
- Legends or stories, which may be true or fictional, usually aim to convey cultural values.
- A long story told as if it really happened.
- Fables, namely stories with animal characters who act like humans.
